Turning My Vision Board into Reality

I can’t tell you the number of times I pin a day. It’s honestly ridiculous, but Pinterest has become an app I open daily. It’s my go-to app for everything: hair and makeup inspo, outfit inspo, nail inspo, even when I’m trying to figure out my next meal for the day. Pinterest is a way for me to turn my vision board into reality. It’s a very subconscious way for me to manifest my life.

There was a time when I was obsessing over the monthly views, hoping to reach my target goal of 1 million monthly views. I was 300k away, and then, the views started to tank. I couldn’t figure out why, and as I watched my views decline to almost 100k (still a lot), I felt like I was doing something wrong. Then it came to me. People go to Pinterest for inspiration. The seasons usually determine what people are searching for on the app. In the summertime, people are looking for the perfect summer outfit, summertime makeup routines, and summer nail designs. The same goes for the other seasons. Once I considered this and ignored the numbers, creating on Pinterest started to feel authentic again.

When I need a break from all the think pieces and the 1 million thoughts on TikTok and Instagram, I go straight to Pinterest. I’m on that app every day (and no, I don’t see a problem with that). I carefully curate each board, making sure my profile portrays me perfectly. The time and effort I put into Pinterest finally paid off one day. On Friday, October 11, 2024, I got an email confirming that I was chosen to speak on a panel in NYC for Pinterest and L’Oreal Event.

The event was held at the Pinterest office and included five creators, including myself, who discussed the ins and outs of using Pinterest from a creator standpoint. It felt unreal to be in a room amongst marketing teams and other creators, discussing my love for Pinterest, but I also felt like I belonged there. Earlier that day, the day I received the email, I was questioning if content creation/influencing was meant for me. I’ve been creating content for years but didn’t get serious until 2022. I still remember the very first tutorial I posted back in 2017. In a digital world where the numbers matter, it can be disheartening when the numbers don’t display what you hope they would. But the key is to remain consistent if it’s really what you want to do. The key is to learn to ignore the numbers and the inconsistency in your content engagement and continue creating content. Your content is reaching the right people. You’re inspiring the right people, whether you realize it or not.
