The Statement Piece

Do you remember that girl in your one class that always wore the loud bracelets? Every move she made, so did her bracelets? That was me. Ever since elementary school, I have been the girl with the loud (noise and color-wise) jewelry. I think this was mainly because from elementary to middle school, we had to wear uniforms, and if you know me, like really know me, then you KNOW that I require some way to express myself creatively. During that time, it was through jewelry. It became so out of hand that my middle school banned ALL jewelry. It was important for us to be ONE, to look like ONE. Now imagine how irritated I was.

I’m someone who LOVES a statement piece, whether that’s a shoe, an outfit, or jewelry. Anything that is abstract-looking, is the thing for me, especially when it comes to jewelry. I love pieces that make me feel. Now, recently I have been in my simple earrings phase, but I am trying to get back into wearing statement pieces. My friend Nadiyah is the same way. Ever since the very first day I met her, she has worn some intricate earrings that caught my eye. She purchased earrings from this one Black owned, handmade jewelry line and I immediately fell in love. Aura by Jewel makes some beautiful pieces that really have you feeling a way, a good way though. If I had to describe art to someone who didn’t know what art was, I would show them her pieces. Now the earrings my friend posted are called the “Prototypes” and they were this pretty emerald green and in the shape of an ear. I immediately went on the page and was mind-blown by the designs of every piece. What really got me was that they’re all handmade. My friend ended up buying me my first pair in my favorite color: a colbalt blue and I was in love. I wore them a couple times and received so many compliments.
