Everything Beauty

Beauty is something I’ve always been interested in and I can thank my mom for that. She used to sing at venues back in the day and I used to watch her get ready for them. MAC was her go to makeup brand and I remember just sitting there anticipating the day when I would be allowed to wear brown lip liner paired with a nice nude lipstick or gloss (that was her go-to lip). I can remember getting those cute little cheap beauty products for Christmas, and getting my very first lip gloss. I still remember getting “in trouble” for wearing too much lip gloss. Beauty has always been MY thing, I really do love everything beauty.

I didn’t really start wearing makeup until high school and when I say makeup, I mean mascara, eyeliner and lip gloss that’s it. I also started experimenting with my eyebrows around my senior year in high school. I always admired my friends and the other girls in my class who came in with their faces BEAT: foundation, concealer, blush, all of that. It wasn’t too many girls who did this, but the ones that did, I always noticed. I wasn’t really interested in makeup until I got to college. I had a roommate at the time who was a MAC girl and again, just like my mom, I would watch her do her makeup routine for class. I think that’s what really sparked my interest and from there, I started watching YouTube videos: my all-time favorite girlie being Aaliyah Jay. I absolutely loved her content and have been a fan ever since she used to use Nivea on her face as primer (if you know, you know). I used to sit and watch her videos for hours, using what little money I had to pick up the basics: some foundation, concealer, blush and mascara. I can vividly remember those days when I was in my room, excited to try all of the new products I purchased. Looking back on those pictures now, I have definitely grown and makeup has definitely changed since then. This was back in 2015, when the thick, boxy eyebrows were in and baking was something everyone was doing.

Full transparency, there was a time when I didn’t feel comfortable leaving the house without my face done. I would wake up super early just to do my face and finish in time to make it to class. At that time, I don’t think I felt pretty enough and so makeup helped with that. Then once I graduated college and got my first “big girl” job, I stopped doing all of that. I started getting more comfortable again with my natural face. Some days, I would walk out the house with just my eyebrows filled in, or a little concealer, but those days of wearing a full face of makeup every day were gone. Looking back on those days, I don’t regret them because that was a time, I experimented the most with makeup. I would try any and every look. My goal was to perfect my craft. Also, that was the time I started doing makeup on other people as well.

Fast forward many years later, my craft is getting better and better and on a daily basis, I wear less and less makeup. I’ve learned to use makeup to enhance what’s already there. My goal is no longer to hide behind expensive foundations (lol), but to use this gift that God gave me to inspire the next beauty guru or to simply just to share my knowledge of the industry I so love. I really do enjoy creating beauty content and I don't see me stopping anytime soon. I love it so much that last year, I thought it would be a good idea to create a beginner friendly digital makeup guide. This was something I didn’t have during my journey and probably would have appreciated having one at the time. I really just wanted to create something to help the girlies out: those who might be struggling with the whole makeup process because it IS a lot to learn. Last year was the year I wrote it down, started brainstorming ideas on Canva and it's also the year I put it to the side. I tend to do this a lot with business ideas: I will brainstorm, write them down, do my research and then leave them alone until I get that sign that it's ready to go. This year, the guide is ready to go.

I really want you to use this guide to get a better understanding of the makeup process from learning about undertones to the appropriate makeup brushes to use. You all get first dibs!
