Color Wow Dream Coat on Curly Black Hair

Last month, I came across a TikTok video on Twitter of a guy using the Color Wow Extra Strength Dream Coat spray. I have never heard about the spray before then, but from the comments, apparently it is THE hair spray. There were mixed reviews, but a lot of the comments were from Black women demanding to see the product on BLACK hair. I reposted the video and a few friends demanded the same thing from me.

Now when it comes to buying beauty products, I think we can all agree that it’s important to find examples of the products being used on people who LOOK like you. With the rise of so many Black influencers, finding products that work for us has become much easier. Back then, it used to be a challenge, but now, you can almost find someone with the same skin type, same complexion, even the same hair type/texture as you.

I was a little skeptical buying the Color Wow spray because if you go on their social media pages, there aren’t “enough” reviews on different hair textures, let alone on Black hair. Now I don’t really get into all the hair typing, but I do know that my natural curls are more on the tight curly side. Some of the curls are looser than the others, but for the most part, I have a head full of thick curls. The correct product to purchase to get your hair from curly to straight is the Extra Strength Dream Coat (priced at $32 for 6.7 oz or the mini size for $14 1.7 oz). I was able to use my points at Sephora and got the mini one for $4! The product is advertised as an ultra-moisturizing anti-frizz treatment that gives your hair a straight, smooth, glass results AND frizz-proof for days. Hmmmmm.

The instructions say to shampoo and condition your hair the way you normally would, but to towel dry your hair. Once that’s done, you spray a GENEROUS amount of the product on your hair and then blow dry it. Now I will say that my hair was a little straighter after blow drying it, but because I used new flat irons, my hair was not as straight (as I would like it to be) as it would have been if I used my other flat irons. There was a shine to my hair also, which I loved, but honestly, I was expecting a little more “WOW.” I did go outside afterwards, but the humidity was only 62%, so I think I really have to put the product to the test over the next few days.

Let me know in the comments if you tried this product or are planning to!
